Care After Laser Resurfacing Of The Face

Laser facial restoration uses a beam of light to provide powerful energy to specific areas of the skin. It is done in two ways; Ablative and non-ablative laser milling.

When the ablative laser is re-applied to the surface, the superficial skin layer is destroyed in a controlled manner, exposing the lower layer of pink skin. You can also consult a dermatologist for CO2 laser resurfacing treatment.

The laser power is then reduced and used to heat the dermis to stimulate the growth of collagen fibers. This leads to the formation of new, softer, and less wrinkled skin as the wound heals.

The non-abrasive laser coating does not damage the skin. All that happens is that the skin warms up and encourages new skin to grow. Since the skin is basically burned by laser treatment, a lot of additional care is required after surgery. Here are some post-laser care tips right after facial recovery.

Drink plenty of fluids to help your skin heal faster and look better. For the first week after surgery, you should drink about 8 ounces of water every 2-3 hours.

If your treatment involves the mouth, take antiviral medications, such as acyclovir, for five days after laser facial repair.

Also, take antibiotics for a week after surgery. All prescription pain relievers should be taken as long as they are prescribed.

Some people experience itching for about three days after the laser is healed. To relieve this itching, put several ice packs on the treated area.

The skin may take about a week to heal. Once cured, apply moisturizer to your skin regularly to keep it moisturized and make sure it doesn't dry out.

Women are not advised to wear makeup for at least a week after laser skin rejuvenation. It only destroys regenerating skin. If necessary, use a mineral foundation to hide redness on the skin.

Last but not least, you shouldn't be out in the sun for at least a month after surgery, as the skin is now very sensitive. Better to wear sun protection lotion SPF 30+ when you are outdoors in the sun, even for a week after laser skin resurfacing.
